John Crist, Jr. was the third son of John Crist, Sr., and Ursilla Hawkins, of Pennsylvania. He married Sarah Tolan/Tolen, of West Virginia, 11 February 1795. They moved to Ohio about 1810, and eventually had 14 (!) children. After John died, Sarah and most of the children moved from Ohio to Owen Cnty, Indiana.
Their son William changed the family name from Crist to Criss after the move to Indiana, about 1830.
