Note
|
Jacob Taylor: Died of Apoplexy. Indians had burned area southwest of East Rochester to farm. Jacob moved to West Township and settled on the farm in the Spring of 1830 where he died. The south part of the Township where he settled was known as the burnt district, the woodsbeing burnt out by the Indians and the region around about was called the burnt region. Jacob was the father of 12 children; 5 sons and 7 daughters. He was a man of great physical strength weighing about 200 pounds and blessed with extraordinarypowers of endurance and great tenacity of purpose and was the first man who ever beat Simeon Jennings in a law suit involving the title of real estate of 10 years litigation. In the Summer of his 72nd year, he mowed a 7 acre meadow with a commonscythe showing wonderful strength in his old age. His mind was not clouded by age, but remained clear to the day of his death. He was a great talker and entertained company like a prince, was well stored with jokes, and was the life of everyfaltering young and old. His death was not expected at the time although he had been troubled some with dropsy for the last year. The Rev. Walter Nelson of the Christian Church performed the funeral rites, listened to by a large congregation ofneighbors and friends. The family and friends returned their sincere thanks to their neighbors for their many remarks of kindness shown. (This was excerpted from a printed obituary). |
