Mary Gamble Mowls
Mrs. Mary Gamble Mowls, 97, of Minerva, died Thursday morning, October 9, at the home of her son, Virgil H. Mowls. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. She was born in 1833, a daughter of Solomon and Anna Gamble of Harrison county. At the age of sixteen she went with her parents to Rose township. In 1879 the family moved to Brown township. During 1851 her marriage to John M. Mowls took place, he having preceded her in death November 7, 1887. Mrs. Mowls was the oldest resident of Minerva. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Borland, of Dell Roy, Mrs. B. C. McCauley, of Minerva and Mrs. Mary Long of Pattersonville; three sons Virgil H. Mowls, of Minerva, Lee Mowls of Waynesburg, and John B. Mowls of near Minerva; twenty-two grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. One son died in infancy and two other sons, Jasper and James died in 1899 and 1925 respectively. Funeral services were held at the home of her son, Virgil H. Mowls Sunday afternoon with Rev. J. L. Herron, of Canton, officiating. Interment was made at Grove cemetery in Brown township.
