Lee was born to Roy and Luella Frost Heston in Canton, Ohio.

He grew up on the family farm and attended schools in Augusta. Upon graduating high school, he went on to complete his B.S. in Agriculture Economics from The Ohio State University. Soon, after, he joined the U. S. Army and served in the US and overseas.

He met and married Sally Grooms and they had a son, Matthew Lee.

After over 20 years of service, he retired from the Carrollton Exempted Village School District as a bus driver and from the East Township Trustees. He also served as an elder at the Stillfork Presbyterian Church. He was a 47-year member of Augusta #504 Mason Lodge where he served as master and later as the treasurer.
