Citation details: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/46610610/mary_(maryanna)-ada-remling Text: The Death of Mrs. Mary Remling January 14th Mrs. Mary Remling nee Schmitter was born January 12, 1843 in Wiedewill, Germany and died January 14, 1916 in the home of her son Otto in Wallingford, Iowa, at the age of 73 years, 2 months, and 2 days. In 1855 she emigrated to America, County of Schuyler, state of Missouri. She was married to Henry L. Remling, January 11, 1863, who preceded her in death, July 28, 1894. This union was blessed with nine children of whom one daughter died at the age of eighteen years. Mrs. Remling was converted in the days of her youth and joined the Methodist Church at Etna, Missouri, of which she was a faithful and active member till her life's end. She loved the church of her choice and served the Lord therein with a kind and loving heart. She found it a pleasure to attend the meetings whenever possible. Mrs. Remling was a noble character and a faithful christian and as she has served the Lord in this earthly life she now reaps eternal blessings. The greater part of her life she lived on a farm three miles southeast of Etna. Within the last seven years she made her home with her children. She leaves to mourn fours sons: Henry of Fargo, Oklahoma; John of Rockford, Iowa; Otto of Wallingford, Iowa; and William of Hooker, Oklahoma; and four daughters, Mrs. Anna Noblett of Jasper, Arkansas; Mrs. Armanda Gardner of Rutledge, Missouri; Mrs. Emma Noblett of Cabool, Missouri; and Mrs. Mary Mohr of Etna, Missouri. Two brothers, John and Fred Schmitter of Lancaster, Missouri. One sister, Mrs. Annie Slighton of Licking, Missouri. Thirty-eight grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. The remains were brought from Wallingford, Iowa to Etna, Missouri. The funeral services were conducted by the writer in the M. E. Church on January 18th at 10 a.m. The Pastor having for his text, Job 19, 25-27. The remains were laid to rest in the Etna Cemetery. Hoyer, only son of Frederick and Louise Hoyer was born July 23, 1861, near Primrose, Iowa, and departed this life at the home of his niece, Mrs. Stephen Kerner, on June 28, 1934, at the age of 72 years, 11 months, and 5 days. He was the youngest and the last to pass on, of a family of 3 children. The eldest sister, Mrs. Louise Feldman, preceded him in death, April 9, 1934, and Mrs. Christena Franke having passed away some 8 years ago. When 6 years old the family moved to Missouri and located on a farm near the present site of Gorin. He grew to manhood on this farm and in 1884 he was married to Annie Remling and resided there until 1888 when they moved to Warsaw, Missouri. In 1889, he returned to Etna, later going to Mt. Hamill, Iowa making his home with his nephew, Fred Feldman for 20 years working for various farmers. In 1928, he returned Missouri, making his home with his niece, Mrs. Stephen Kerner. At a young age he was confirmed in the German Lutheran Church, and on going to Iowa he united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, at Mt. Hamill, Iowa. He leaves a large number of nieces and nephews and friends to mourn his death. Funeral services were held at Etna, Saturday, June 30, at 2:00 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Arvin of the Wyaconda Baptist Church. A quartet composed of Miss Lillie Baird, Miss Clydean Hartman, Mr. Willie Horn and Rev. Arvin sang, "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Shadows," and Miss Baird sang, "The Last Mile of the Way." Interment was made in the Etna Cemetery. Pallbearers were grand nephews: Hollis Leeper, Raymond Pfieffer, Orville Kerner, Roy, Ray and Glen Feldman. Gorin Argus - July 12, 1934 ed., P4, C4 |
