Citation details: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/78227538/george-e.-hoyer Text: George E. Hoyer, only son of Frederick and Louise Hoyer was born July 23, 1861, near Primrose, Iowa, and departed this life at the home of his niece, Mrs. Stephen Kerner, on June 28, 1934, at the age of 72 years, 11 months, and 5 days. He was the youngest and the last to pass on, of a family of 3 children. The eldest sister, Mrs. Louise Feldman, preceded him in death, April 9, 1934, and Mrs. Christena Franke having passed away some 8 years ago. When 6 years old the family moved to Missouri and located on a farm near the present site of Gorin. He grew to manhood on this farm and in 1884 he was married to Annie Remling and resided there until 1888 when they moved to Warsaw, Missouri. In 1889, he returned to Etna, later going to Mt. Hamill, Iowa making his home with his nephew, Fred Feldman for 20 years working for various farmers. In 1928, he returned Missouri, making his home with his niece, Mrs. Stephen Kerner. At a young age he was confirmed in the German Lutheran Church, and on going to Iowa he united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, at Mt. Hamill, Iowa. He leaves a large number of nieces and nephews and friends to mourn his death. Funeral services were held at Etna, Saturday, June 30, at 2:00 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Arvin of the Wyaconda Baptist Church. A quartet composed of Miss Lillie Baird, Miss Clydean Hartman, Mr. Willie Horn and Rev. Arvin sang, "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Shadows," and Miss Baird sang, "The Last Mile of the Way." Interment was made in the Etna Cemetery. Pallbearers were grand nephews: Hollis Leeper, Raymond Pfieffer, Orville Kerner, Roy, Ray and Glen Feldman. Gorin Argus - July 12, 1934 ed., P4, C4 |
