Mrs. Vinetta Standley Dead

Funeral services for Mrs. Vinetta Fae Standley, 19, were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Weir Baptist church, Rev. W.E. Taylor officiating. Interment was in the Cherokee cemetery.

Mrs. Standley died in Mt. Carmel hospital at 4;45 o'clock Saturday morning. She had been dismissed recently after an operation but was returned to the hospital Friday night. Mrs. Standley was the wife of Glenn W. Standley. Born in Slater, Wyo., May 24, 1918, Mrs. Standley had lived here for four months. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Peek, reside six miles west of Weir. A membership was held in the Baptist church.

Surviving, besides the widower and the parents, are five brothers, Robert Peek and Chester Peek of Akron, Colo., Oscar Peek and Lyle Peek of Brush, Colo., LaVern Peek, at the parents' home, and two sisters, Mrs. Lottie McNellen of Brush, Colo., and Miss Blanche Peek of the parents' home.

Virginia B. Woods

Mrs. Virginia B. Woods, 54, of 618 W. maple died early Wednesday morning at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Coffeyville where she had resided since Dec. 15.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the First Southern baptist Church with the Rev. J.W. (Bill) Pace of Yale, Okla., officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Cherokee Cemetery of Cherokee, Kan., under the direction of the Potts Funeral Home.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Friday and until 9 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Virginia Blanche Woods was born July 31, 1924, at Tecumseh, Neb., the daughter of Oscar Earl and Louisa Blanche (Blakeley) Peek. She attended rural schools and graduated from high school at West Mineral, Kan. She later resided at Weir City and various communities in Southeast Kansas.

She married Arthur William Woods Sr. in 1941 at the First baptist Church of Weir City and they were later divorced.

In recent years Mrs. Woods was employed as a nurse aide at Mercy Hospital.
She was a member of the Fist Southern Baptist Church and the ladies group at the church.

Survivors include one son, Bill Woods, Neodesha; two daughters, Mrs. Trudy High, Coffeyville, and Mrs. Betty Smith, Neodesah; two brothers, Jack Peek, Cathlamet, Wash., and Lyle Peek, Torrington, Wyo.; one sister, Mrs. Lettie Burks, Clarinda, Iowa; and 13 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Lottie Irene Burks was born Oct 24, 1909 at Tecumseh, Nebraska to Oscar Earle and Blanche Louise (Blakley) Peek. She was married to Walter Eugene McMullen Jun 17, 1928 at Brush, Colorado. The couple had three children: Vernon, Marvis, and Phllis.

Lottie was a 50-year member of Easter Star and a Lifetime Member of Methodist Women. In her lifetime she has worked as a telephone operator, at Berry's Hatchery as a chicken sexer, at Oehler Drug Co., and at Clarinda Hardware.

Her husband Walter McMullen passed away in 1965 and later she married Harold Miller and after his death she married Charles E. Burks in 1974.

Lottie passed away February 20, 2008 at Clarinda Regional Health Center at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; siblings Robert Peek, Chester Peek, Oscar Peek, Lyle Peek, Jack Peek, Marjorie Peek, Vanetta Stanley, and Blanche Woods; and step-son Philip Burks.

She is survived by her children: Vernon D. McMullen and wife Mildred of Rapid City, SD, Marvis I. (Ed) Anderson of Clarinda, Ia, Phyllis J. Smith (Richard) of Finley, Oh; step-daughter Barbara (Miller) Kamman of Nampa, Id, step-daughter-in-law Marjorie Burks of Des Moines, Ia; 9 grandchidren, 15 step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 18 step-great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 22, 2008 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel with Rev Andy Rubenking officiating. Interment was in Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church or Clarinda Regional Health Center. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
