C. C. MANFULL

Former Alliance Citizen Dead at Nottingham

BORN IN AUGUSTA.

Resided Here for Fifteen Years And Owned Several Stores On Main Street—An Active Life.

C. C. Manfull, who formerly resided here and was one of Alliance’s leading merchants, is dead. He passed away at 5:20 o’clock Sunday evening at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. H. P. McIntosh in Nottingham, just east of Cleveland. Death was caused by Bright’s disease, with which he had suffered for two years. The remains will pass through Alliance Tuesday morning and will be conveyed to Augusta over the O ? & L. E. railroad. The funeral will occur in Augusta at noon.

Christopher C. Manfull was born in Augusta, Carroll county, November 28, 1830. He was married there to Miss Hannah Shourds, who survives him. The coming autumn would have marked the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. Mr. Manfull brought his family to Alliance and resided here for fifteen years. He has owned stores in almost every section of Main street’s business portion. One of his establishments was a book store, next door to where the post office was then located, in Mrs. Young’s block. At one time he bought out the stock of goods of David Hester and also Haines Brothers. Among the branches of trade followed by him were groceries, book stores, dry goods houses and other lines. The last of his Alliance enterprises was located in the lower floor of what is now the Hotel Keplinger.

Mr. Manfull was a shrewd and successful business man and a good citizen. Ever genial, generous and ready to greet young and old with a cordial and happy salutation, he made friends on every side. Twenty years ago the family removed from Alliance but they have frequently visited here since. Deceased was a member of the Masonic Order. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Henry P. McIntosh of Cleveland, Mrs. A. G. Ross, Mrs. R. C. Flower and Mrs. George G. Power, all of New York and one son John S. Manfull of New York. Mrs. T. B. Culp and Mrs. I. C. Milbourn of this city are sisters. All will have community’s most profound sympathy in their great bereavement.
