Citation details: THE REPOSITORY - Canton, OH Text: DAVID U. WHIPKEY, age 72, of Canton, passed away Thursday, evening at Manor Care Nursing Home following a brief illness. Born in Annapolis, OH, on Feb. 5, 1934, to the late Hoy V. Whipkey Sr. and Gayle (Kennedy) Whipkey. David was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He had retired as proprietor of his own construction co. for over 30 years, named D & H Whipkey Construction Co. David was an active member of Canton Rotary Club for over 27 years, and was the recipient of Paul Harris award for his philanthropic generosity to the community. A mason of Wm. McKinley Lodge #431 of Canton, David was a faithful member and elderof Calvary Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Whipkey. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Ellen Whipkey of the home, a daughter, Linda (Mark) Gamble of Canton, a son, Wayne Whipkey of Canton; four grandchildren, Matt and Johnathon Gamble, Jordan and Andrew Whipkey; two sisters, Pauline(Rodney) Borland of Kensington, OH, Shirley Walters of Cleveland, OH; two brothers, Hoy V. Whipkey, Jr. and Paul Whipkey, both of Canton, a special great niece, Kelly Presson, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home-Canton Chapel with Pastor C. David Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial conributions may be made in his name to Calvary Presbyterian Church at 1525 Shorb Ave. NW,Canton, OH 44703.
