Anthony S. Schmachtenberger Age 30, of Fort Richardson Army Base in East Anchorage, Alaska, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009. He was born November 28, 1978 in Alliance, Ohio. His parents are Ernest, Sr. and Sue Schmachtenberger of Minerva. He is a U.S. Army Staff Sgt. attached to the 2nd Battalion, 377th Parachute Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. He has served two tours of duty in Iraq and one tour in Afghanistan. He is 1997graduate of Minerva High School, a member of the First Christian Church of Minerva, and a former Minerva Volunteer Fire Fighter. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter, Brooke and his wife, Sue of Fairbanks, Alaska; two daughters, Madison and Emma and their mom, and his best friend, Amy from Elmira, New York; two sisters, Erine Schmachtenberger ofAlliance, Kristen Jenkins of Minerva; three brothers, Ernest Schmachtenberger Jr. of Mississippi, James Jenkins of Minerva, Adam Jenkins of Cuyahoga Ohio; maternal grandparents, Bill and Jeanne Kennedy of Minerva; and many aunts, uncles, cousinsand friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Donna Schmachtenberger. Funeral services will be held at the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home Monday, August 10 at 1 p.m. officiated by Mr. Ralph Norman. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery with full military honors.
