Columbus Hawk and his daughter, Mrs. Mary C. Brown, each of whom had been in a critical condition for some time, as a result of cancer, died Monday and Tuesday, respectively, in their home on West Main Street. The father died Monday morning at 5o'clock and the daughter expired on Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. Funeral services for each were held jointly this morning at the Reformed Church, and burial was made in Grandview. Rev. G. H. Souder conducted the services.
Mr. Hawk was born in Center Township April 21, 1844, following his occupation of farmer until his removal to Carrollton. In 1865 he was united in marriage at Carrollton to Caroline Busler, who died in 1886. To them were born five sons and onedaughter -- John, residing at Bergholz; Elmer, of Hibbetts; Addison, of Mechanicstown; Howard, of Wooster; Sylvester, deceased and Mrs. Mary C. Brown. Besides the four sons, three brothers and three sisters survive -- Leander of Carrollton;Addison of Canton; William of Scio; Mrs. Lavina Kirby of Carrollton; Mrs. Minerva Bingham of Augusta and Mrs. Maggie Salmon of Scio.
Mrs. Mary C. Brown was born near Carrollton, April 15, 1866, and on October 3, 1889, was married to Thomas F. Brown, who died in 1916. Two daughters survive --- Mrs. Virgil McCray of Harrison Township and Miss Ohma, at home.
Both father and daughter were members of the Reformed Church.
