Leora M. Demeter Leora M. Demeter, age 85, of Davenport, Iowa, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, in the Hope Creek Care Center in E. Moline, Ill. She was born May 20, 1925, in Augusta, to Wayland M. and Louise Marie (Leatherberry) Brown. She graduated from Augusta High School in 1943, and was a secretary for the law office of Paul E. Brown in Massillon. She is a member of the PerryChristian Church where she was organist for many years. She loved music and played the xylophone, piano and organ and gave piano lessons. She loved bowling, playing cards and dancing. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, John Demeter, and during his years of service in the military they lived in many parts of the country including North Carolina, California, Virginia, Hawaii and Chicago. She is also survived by two daughters, Kathleen Kelly of Davenport, Iowa, Nancy North of Oceanside, Calif.; and a son, Craig Demeter of San Fransisco; sister, Norma Jean (William) Howard of North Canton; four grandchildren and sixgreat-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Darla Summer; and a son-in-law, Alan North. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. Craig Ott officiating. Burial will be in Augusta Cemetery. John Demeter John Demeter Age 88 of Davenport, Iowa, died Friday, May 6, 2011, in the Hope Creek Care Center in E. Moline, Ill.. He was born Feb. 2, 1923 in New Brighton, Pa, to Julius and Elizabeth Demeter. He graduated from Augusta High School and enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 1941, where he served for 25- 1/2 years and received an honorable discharge Dec. 31, 1966. During his tour of duty he attained the rank of MSgt E-8 with a title of auto mechanic. He received the following: good conduct medal for Asiatic-Pacific area, American Theater,World War II Victory, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Marksman Rifle Badge, and Pistol Sharpshooter Badge. During his years of military service they lived in many parts of the country includingNorth Carolina, California, Virginia, Hawaii, and Chicago. After discharge from the service he retired in Canton, Ohio where he worked for the US Post Office as a mechanic. He was a member of Perry Christian Church where he loved to sing in the choir. He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years,Leora Demeter; a daughter, Darla Sumner; son-in-law, Alan North; his parents; five brothers; and one sister. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy North of Oceanside, Calif. and Kathleen Kelly of Davenport, Iowa; a son, Craig Demeter of San Francisco; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Cole and Elizabeth Hodula. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Mr. Craig Ott officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Augusta Cemetery. Calling hours will be held two hours priorto the services at the funeral home.
