Richard Northcutt was the son of John Northcutt and Sara Brent Lease. It has been recorded that he was born in Fauquier Co and in Prince William County, VA. He first married Sally Florence of Virginia. To this union were 4 sons:John, Wm, George and Jeremiah. FAG for Benjamin Northcutt, Sr. of Kentucky states he was a son of Richard Northcutt. It has been recorded that Richard returned home while still in service to find that his wife Sally had been killed by Indians. He placed his sons in others care and returned to the military. He married a second time to Frances Nunnally (?) some time after 1777. He died in 1781 at the Siege of Little York, when the British Army, under Cornwallis, was taken by Gen. George Washington. According to DAR records he served under Capt John Ball and Colonel Elias Edmonds in the Fauquier Co Militia. It has been reported that Richard's father, John, came from England with his brother Wm, in the first settling of Va.
