Jacob was the fourth son of Johanas Henry & Anna Magdalena "Mary" (Van Han or Van Hern) Kope. Jacob was baptized on 16 April 1826 at the German Lutheran Church in Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio by the Rev. Heinrich Sonnedecker. Jacob died at the age of 8 years, 5 months and 27 days. His was one of the earliest burials into the Kope cemetery. The Kope cemetery is located on CR #6, in section #32, of Cannan township on part of the grounds of the Kope homestead. The one acre of land was deeded by Henry and Mary Kope, on 19 Nov 1839, to the combined German Reformed and German Lutheran churches. This church was called the Kopp (Kope) Meeting House.
