ALLIANCE REVIEW, Friday, 19 December 1902. LAST SAD RITES. Friends of the Late Henry Wathey Gaze for the Last Time Upon His Mortal Remains. The funeral services of the late Henry Wathey were held at the home on Columbia street Thursday morning at 9 o'clock. The services were in charge of Rev. A. B. Moore of the Disciple church. After the ceremonies at the house the remains were taken to the L. E. A. & W. railroad depot where they were conveyed to Augusta and interment made at that place. Messrs. Frank Mell, B. J. Rickard, George Holman, G. E. Muntz, J. Walter Wheeler and L. A. Reddy, all grocerymen, acted as bearers. The casket was covered with beautiful floral designs which showed the high esteem in which the deceased was held. Among the floral offerings were: A design of white and yellow roses in the center of which was the word, "Father," in purple letters from Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Milbourn and Mrs. I. C. Milbourn, a wreath of red roses from the grocers, a wreath of yellow roses from Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Culp, a spray of carnations from J. S. Mong, J. A. Jones and their wives, and a spray of carnations from Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Beeson.

THE ALLIANCE DAILY REVIEW, Wednesday, December 17, 1902 HENRY WATHEY PASSES TO THE GREAT BEYOND TUESDAY AFTERNOON PROMINENT BUSINESS MAN A Sufferer for Three Months with That Dread Disease Gangrene - In business here for 14 years. With his arms folded as if in a peaceful sleep Henry Wathey, one of Alliance's most prominent business men, died at his home on Columbia street Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock after three months' suffering from that most terrible of diseases, gangrene. Mr. Wathey bore his suffering bravely, and was conscious until the last. He was given all the attention of his daughter, Harriett, and son, Chris, and all the skill known to medical science was applied, but all efforts were in vain, the grim reaper after three months' work, succeeding in claiming his reward. Henry Wathey was born near Augusta in 1832, hence he was 70 years of age. He became united in marriage to Miss Mary Jane Manfull in Knapp's Creek, Pa. In 1888 he moved with his family from that place to this city where he purchased the Teeter's property and started into the grocery business. Several years after he removed his grocery stock into the Keplinger block, opposite the hotel, where the grocery is now located. He was a conscientious, energetic and upright man. He was kind and indulgent and his memory will long be cherished by those who knew him best. He was not a member of any religious denomination, but was noted for his kindness, pleasantness and sterling integrity. He is survived by a half-brother Zachariah Wathey, of near Augusta, who is the last one of the family living. The following children survive him: Christopher and Harriet, of this city, Mrs. Matilda Dougherty of Emerson, Pa., and Mrs. Nettie Cruthers, of Grove City, Pa., and Jesse Wathey, of Montana. The funeral services will be held at the late home Thursday morning at 9 o'clock after which the remains will be conveyed to Augusta on the L. E. A. & W. train which leaves here at 10:03 o'clock. Rev. A. G. Moore will officiate. The grocers will probably attend in a body.
