A copy of the Last Will and Testament of John Manful as signed on November 2, 1864 follows: Copied from the original located in the Carroll County Genealogical Society files, Carrollton, Ohio. LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT JOHN MANFUL 1809-1864 In the name of the Benevolent Father of All, I John Manful of Augusta, Carroll County, Ohio do make and publish this my last will and testament. Item First. It is my will that my just debts and all charges be paid out of my Estate. Item Second. I give and devise unto Mary Ann Manful, widow of my brother, Stephen Manful, the house and lot in which we reside, and all it contains, above and below, inside and out, together with the pasture lot next the mill adjoining the lot we live on, also Five Hundred Dollars to be invested in some safe way so that she can have the benefit of it as long as she remains a widow. I also give and bequeath to her my horse carriage and harness for her own use. Item Third. I will and devise that the remainder of my estate whether it be in lands, houses, notes, bonds, and other evidences of indebtedness, shall be distributed in the manner following: First Christopher C. Manful, Son of my deceased brother, Stephen Manful, First shall receive Five Hundred Dollars. Frances Culp, daughter of my deceased brother, Stephen Manful, shall also receive Five Hundred Dollars. Henry Warthy deduct Five Hundred Dollars already received. Then the remainder of my Estate shall be equally divided between Christopher C. Manful, Mary Jane Warthy, Rebecca Milbourn, Elizabeth Milbourn and Frances Culp. Item Fourth. I do hereby nominate and appoint Christopher C. Manful and Jonathan Milbourn Executors of this my last will and testament hereby authorizing and empowering them to compromise, adjust, release and discharge, in said manner as they may deem proper the debts and claims due me. I do also authorize and empower them if it shall become necessary in order to pay my debts, to sell, by private sale, or in such manner, upon such terms of credit, or otherwise as they may think proper, all or any part of my real estate, and deeds to purchasers to execute, acknowledge, and deliver, in fee simple. I desire that no appraisement and no sale of my personal property be made and that the court of probate direct the omission of the same, in pursuance of the statute. I do hereby revoke all former wills by me made. In testimony hereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this second of November in the year 1864.
